Nervousness
Thunderstorms, bangs, crowds, strangers, new situations or sometimes for no apparent reason at all your dog may show signs of nervousness which can stop them from enjoying a normal life.
Massage directly stimulates your dogs nervous system to help stored stress, anxiety and tension to be released as the dog experiences a new way of being touched which then brings about a greater awareness of their own body.
With this type of massage I will be invoking a response from the parasympathetic nervous system, or the rest and digest response. You the owner will be taught areas of your dogs body to stimulate and areas to leave well alone as well as exercises you will do at home with your own dog to help support and reiterate the work I am doing at the clinic.
Massage helps to reduce levels of cortisol in the body (a stress hormone) and aids in the relaxation of your dog. Not only does it raise levels of body awareness but it can help the nervous system to develop new pathways for the electrical signals which can help to bring about positive change in your dogs responses to currently challenging situations.
Massage May Help Your Dog If You See:
I ensure that your dogs experience of massage is an incredibly positive one and I will be supporting you in helping your dog to overcome the challenges that are holding them, and you, back.
Did You Know: Just like humans dogs will often store their emotion along their lower jawline and in the masseter (cheek) muscle; try some slow gentle circles with the tip of your finger along the lower jawline and across the cheek muscle. When your dog lets out a sigh of relief you will know you have hit the spot! BUT be sure to do it gently, slowly and lightly. I also recommend that you try Tellington T Touch for your dog if they have nervous/behavioural issues.
