Canine Massage For Disabled Dogs

It may have happened due to an accident or an injury. It could be due to long term illness, arthritis, paralysis or perhaps your dog is geriatric, recovering from surgery, is an amputee or has always had special needs. Here at the Canine Massage Therapy Centre my work with disabled or physically compromised dogs is all about quality of life. The fact is, they adapt to situations a lot better than we humans do. They can cope with their ailments but it may be that via the natural pain relief of massage they are able to cope better, and do what all dogs do best; keeping you busy!

Massage for disabled dogs can help on several levels. For example if you dog is paralysed in their back legs some owners opt for carts and wheels (basically a wheelchair for your dog if you like) as they are now just using their front legs more pressure will be put on the neck, thorax and shoulder area. These areas can become knotted, tight, short, tense. They may go into spasm and could be painful, more painful than the original reason they are classed as ‘dis-abled’. By working on the complex muscular system (your dog has approximately 700 muscles!) we can resolve things like painful spasms and cramps and support issues like chronic arthritis. So, its important that your dog has the strength in the rest of their body to be able to cope with their personal condition.

I am looking at areas of overcompensation, weight shifting, discomfort, soreness and muscular stress and by resolving and supporting these painful areas through massage, natural, non invasive, long lasting pain relief can be administered.
