Giant Breeds

The gentle giants who share our homes are prone to health related issues a little more than some of the smaller dogs. As the owner of a giant breed dog myself I am fully aware of some of the mobility issues that giant dogs face as they get older or that occur as a result of injury; the sheer mass of the giant dog can inhibit recovery times and make recuperation longer. Dog massage for the giant dog is an important part of their health maintenance as it offers a full hands on check of your dogs health and is able to anticipate any future potential problems like joint stiffness, range of movement or painful spasms or myofascial trigger points held in the system. The massive weight of the muscular system on the dogs frame can often cause fundamental issues such as problems getting up and down from a lying position, reluctance to go for a walk or stiffness as a result of movement or arthritis.

Dog massage works by influencing all 11 systems of the body, all approx 700 muscles and all approx 320 bones. Your dogs bodyweight is 45% muscle and areas of injury, pain, referred muscular pain, tightness, soreness, overuse and over exertion are all stored here. Why accept that your giant dog is slowing down? Just because they are big? Just because they are big doesn`t mean they can`t be agile (albeit a little clumsy sometimes!) so next time you look at your giant friend, stop for a moment and think about what`s really going on underneath their skin.
