Greyhounds

Rescue Greyhounds

They have spent their life working, training and competing so if you have or are thinking about inviting a greyhound into your family, stop for a while and really consider what they have been doing before they came to you.

The track life of a dog is one which is often marred by injury, over exertion, repetitive strain and muscular sprains, strains and injury. They were once athletes who were trained and raced and like human athletes, repetitive exercise and training takes it toll on the systems it relies on to perform. Human athletes receive massage on a regular basis to help their performance, recovery and muscular health so by having the same techniques applied to your greyhound we are able to work on the areas that have accumulated stress and injury during their career.

Having much experience with Sporting Dogs I am able to identify  latent muscular conditions that may be causing discomfort and am also able to identify previous sporting injuries not picked up on by traditional allopathic care. There are very specific spots on the ex-racers body that will accumulate muscular stress and injury; for example in England greyhounds race anti-clockwise around a track making them prone to sustained injury on the left side of their body. Of course the right side of the body accrues stress and injury too and areas like the TFL and Gracilis are prone to ruptures while overcompensation is often held in the neck, behind the shoulders and down the spine as well as myofascial tearing in the Infraspinatous muscle. But dont be fooled by their career, you would be surprised at how the average pet dog actually has more stresses and strains than these workers!

A session of Canine Massage can help to improve your greyhounds well being and can help to identify any areas of their body which may still be holding trauma, injury, scarring or spasm. By resolving and supporting these issues massage can really make a difference to your greyhounds well being and health allowing them freer movement, a relief from discomfort and a better quality of life.
