The Working Dog
Working dogs come in all shapes, sizes, breeds and disciplines. From gundogs to guide dogs, these dogs have got a job to do and quite often they will be reluctant to show any pain or discomfort that stops them from serving their leader.
Working Trials, Rescue dogs, Search dogs, Herding, Hunting, Tracking and Assistance dogs are all trained in specific tasks; which through repetition, strain, training and performance all takes its toll on the dogs muscular system. As stamina, control and focus are some of the main qualities needed for working dogs, if the dog has an injury such as a torn muscle they will quite often work through the pain, with symptoms only manifesting as the tissue begins to scar which will have a knock on effect to other areas of their body.
Clinical Canine Massage works on all 700 muscles and approx 320 bones (tail length depending) of your dogs body and it is of course the muscles which pull on the bones to make the dog move. Muscle accounts for 45% of your dogs bodyweight and their vast and complex muscular system is just as prone to injury and damage as ours.
I work regularly with Banbury & District DTC to help keep their dogs in tip top shape. This includes many Field Trials, Gundogs and CDX Champs as well as Agility dogs who come to see me and sometimes a pet dog manages to snag a session for themselves! Typical injuries I see are Shoulder Girdle Muscles, Lumbar Back Strains, Repetitive Stess and Trigger Points. A big hello to all my dogs and owners at Banbury & District DTC; it is always an absolute pleasure to work with such switched on owners who do a strenuous activity with their dogs but are conscientious and considerate enough to give back to their dogs what the dogs put in.
Dogs ache, are sore, tense, stiff and hurt just like we do. Dog Massage can help to give your dog back their old spark or can at least lead to significant improvements in their day to day as well as their working life.
If you see any of the following in your working dog, call today for a friendly no obligation chat, it may be the best thing you ever did to help prolong your working dogs career.
